St Kitts and Nevis launches Slip Distribution Program, provides Thousands of High-Quality Slips to farmers

A Slip Distribution Program was launched in St Kitts and Nevis by Ministry of Agriculture under the theme- “Farmers Set and Ready”. It was aimed at providing hundreds of thousands of high-quality slips to the farmers for a food secure future of the island nation.
Under this initiative taken by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources of St Kitts and Nevis, the authorities have distributed hundreds of thousands of tissue-cultured slips to the farmers and backyard gardeners across St Kitts and Nevis.
These high-quality, resilient slips including pineapple, banana, and plantain have laid the groundwork for an abundant and sustainable future in local agriculture.
The Minister of Agriculture of St Kitts and Nevis, Samal Duggins stated that with this initiative, their farmers are all set and ready for achieving their agenda of reducing food import bill by 25% by the year 2025. He stated that their department is continuously making efforts in order to lead the way to a food-secure and sustainable future.

Minister Duggins said that in their mission to reduce the national food import bill, it became essential for them to empower their farmers. He therefore, has taken significant effort with a vision to launch this unprecedented Slip Distribution Program in order to boost productivity and quality.
“After hearing directly from our food heroes, your SKNLP government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, has launched an unprecedented Slip Distribution Program,” noted Minister Samal Duggins.
The Ministry of Agriculture has also recently marked the official launch of Department of Agriculture’s TABASCO Pepper Experimental Plot project. This project will play a significant role in boosting the agriculture sector of the island nation which is central to their Sustainable Economic Expansion and Diversification (SEED) initiative.

This project will not only enhance the productivity of the agriculture sector but will also play a crucial role in creating new job opportunities, giving a chance to the citizens to generate some income and address the unemployment gap of the country.
The Ministry of Agriculture of St Kitts and Nevis also welcomed 640-layer chicks as a part of their Layer Chicken Industry Sustainable Development Project. The main motive of bringing these chicks was to boost the poultry production of the island nation.
Minister Duggins said that these programmes will play a huge role in enhancing their overall agricultural productivity. He also said that these programmes are a little step towards achieving the Government’s 25 by 25 agenda.
