St Kitts and Nevis launched new high-speed ICT Network Project for developing healthcare sector

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: St Kitts and Nevis has always remained committed towards advancing health sector and services of the island nation. Recently, the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis has introduced a new high-speed, cutting-edge ICT Network Project for elevating the healthcare sector of the nation to greater heights.

The official launch ceremony of the project was conducted on Tuesday, 5th June at the JNF General Hospital Conference room. During the ceremony, PM Terrance Drew extended gratitude to Universal Service Fund (USF) of the National Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (NTRC), The Cable and the Ministry of Health for the crucial collaboration on this project.

This project is anticipated to play a significant role as it is being launched with a main motive of delivering access to Information and Communications Technology services to all the users of hospitals, clinics and other health amenities.

While emphasizing the project, the leader of the nation stated that it had propelled the health department into a new era of technical advancement which will foster further progress in healthcare delivery. He also asserted that the project will play a significant role in ensuring that all medical practitioners have early access to the information about patients so that they can conduct right treatment and cure the disease on time.

PM Drew remarked that this project is transforming healthcare facilities into smart facilities. He stated that now a doctor can stay at JNF Hospital and see a patient in Cayon Health Centre using a device such as laptop.

“This is truly transformative,” noted Dr. Terrance Drew.

Moreover, a live demonstration of the ICT Network’s capabilities was also conducted during the ceremony. The health practitioner at Cayon Health Centre connected a video conference with a doctor at the JNF General Hospital to help in diagnosing a patient suffering from symptoms of hypertension.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Cable, Patricia Walters also stated that all the patients can now receive the best medical care regardless of location. She further noted that video conference capabilities are one of the crucial aspects of the system. It also includes virtual waiting rooms, multi-specialist consultations, education portals, and many more.
