St Kitts and Nevis establishes diplomatic relations with Egypt, aims to strengthen ties

St Kitts and Nevis: Twin islands – St Kitts and Nevis established bilateral relations with Egypt for which both the nations have approved a joint Communiqué which was signed by Foreign Minister of Egypt – Sameh Shourky and his counterpart of Saint Kitts and Nevis – Mark Brantley.

Both the counterparts signed the communique on the perimeters of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States. In the communiqué, both the nations have pledged to strengthen mutually beneficial – trade, social, economic, and cultural ties in the pursuit of strengthening peace and international cooperation.

While on signing the communique, Mark Brantley cited that, “A diplomatic victory for – St Kitts and Nevis as we took the step yesterday of formalizing diplomatic relations with an important country- Egypt. Truly an honour to meet with Egyptian Foreign Minister HE Sameh Shoukry in the margins of UNGA76 in New York and to discuss how our two nations can now create stronger ties #DiplomacyMatters.”

The news was shared by Brantley in his Facebook post. Establishing bilateral ties with the Arab Republic of Egypt will surely be a beneficial step for the Caribbean island country.

Egypt is already having bilateral relations with the Caribbean nations of Belize and Cuba. The Arab nation established bilateral ties with Belize on May 6 in the year 1994, while with Cuba on December 8, in 1972.

St Kitts and Nevis is having diplomatic ties with more than 120 nations at the current time. A few days back, the island country has celebrated its 38th Independence day, during which the Prime Minister – Dr Timothy Harris, addressed the nation and highlighted the achievements that the nation made in the past thirty-eight years.

Besides this, the Prime Minister also urged the citizens to take their jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine so that the nation can move closer to its target of achieving herd immunity and place their win over the deadliest virus.
