SKN’s Lantern at Taipei Lantern Festival attracts the huge crowd

Taipei, St Kitts and Nevis: On February 19, the Shilin district of Taipei witnessed the Taipei Lantern Festival, which was resumed after the break of a year due to the global pandemic – COVID-19. Many nations represented their lanterns, but the eyes of the crowd were attracted by the Lantern of St Kitts and Nevis, which represented the ‘Nevis Museum of History and Alexander Hamilton’s birthplace, alongside two youths playing the steel pan’.

The lantern was explained by the Federation’s Ambassador to Taiwan, HE Jasmine Huggins. While sharing the remarks, Huggins said that the objective was to create awareness about the history and culture of the twin-island through creative, fun as well as colourful event.

The Ambassador also stated that this representation of the culture would provide a boost in the tourism in St Kitts and Nevis.

Huggins further mentioned that “Saint Kitts and Nevis National Museum (formerly the Old Treasury Building) is depicted alongside figures from our folklore, namely, the moco jumbles, clowns, bull and masquerades”.

The colourful display of the culture garnered the praise from the many presented and expressed the desire to visit the Federation.

St Kitts and Nevis was applauded for a few more reasons – student Jacinth Hunkins, her performance amazed the visitors. She showed her skills on the steel pan while Kevrove Phipps, who was dressed like a crown, entertained the audience with his energetic as well as delighted moves.

The Lantern Festivals are the annual functions hosted at large cities near Taiwan. The festival is hosted by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications in Taiwan to celebrate the Lantern Festival. These festivals are celebrated for a week are commenced on the 15th day of the Lunar Calendar month.
