St Kitts and Nevis: The Ministries of Sustainable Development and Environment in St Kitts and Nevis have launched ‘Improving Environmental Management through Sustainable Land Management,’ an environmental project. The project has been launched on February 17, 2022, at an inception workshop during the Credit Union Conference Centre (CUNA).
Welcoming remark was shared by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Elreter Simpson-Browne. She expressed pleasure of the ministries’ role in the initiative and added that this project was ‘very important and time conscious.’
The minister was quoted saying, “As the Ministry of Sustainable Development has the responsibility for land use, planning and management, this project holds significance.”
She added, “This project will help us to promote sustainable development through the update of the National Physical Development Plan, building codes, associated legal and regulatory frameworks, and our digital capabilities”.
She further stated that the Ministry of Sustainable Development welcomes such initiatives, which, of course, are facilitated by grant funding, and allow us to work with our national partners to secure that sustainable future, continually invests in our people, and ensure that no one is left behind.
Later, Simpson-Browne thanked Global Environment Facility (GEF), the funding partner, for developing and promoting the sustainable development agenda.
She also announced that in this year, the ministry has been planning and preparing first ever Voluntary National Review (VNR). The objective behind the VNR is to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the high-level political form of the UN.
The Ministry of Sustainable Development would also focus on the SDGs, including, SDG 17, SDG 15, SGD 14, SDG 5, and SDG 4.
