SALCC and SLFS collaborates to enhance Professional Development Training
Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) and the Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance professional development training.

Castries, Saint Lucia: Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) and the Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance professional development training.
The accord was signed on Tuesday, December 19. It is to be added that, this collaboration focuses on moving further the professional development training in the fields of Fire Fighting, Emergency Management and Disaster Management as well as response.
Adding further to this, the signatory authorities of the document included the SALCC Chairman, SLFS Chief Fire Officer Ditney Downes, Dr Cletus Springer, and SALCC Principal Dr Madgerie Jameson-Charles.

- Course Development: SLFS and SALCC will collaboratively create educational material to develop sustainable and professional development courses for SLFS staff.
- Pedagogical Training: SALCC will offer education training to the instructors at the SLFS training academy to advance and improve the quality of the training delivered.
- Adherence to Standards: Both institutions are devoted to maintaining the fire-fighting training standards that are set by organizations such as the National Fire Protection.
- Certification of Courses: All the professional development courses will be certified by SALCC through this collaboration.
While reacting to this partnership, Dr Charles stated that the SALCC and SLFS have joined hands to enhance a workforce with the knowledge and skills which are required for local and international advantage.
“The Sir Arthur Lewis Community College and Saint Lucia Fire Service joined forces to develop a competent workforce with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to ensure that the Fire Service has the regional and international advantage”, the SALCC Principal said.
Noting this, the Chief Fire Officer (CFO). Downes extended hope regarding the alliance that this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will provide the workers of the Fire Service with the required knowledge.
Moreover, this will also allow them to perform their duties and prepare for further.
It is hereby mentioned that this point will go along with the proposed practical training facility that is proposed to be constructed in the south of the island.
The MoU will remain in force for five years. Both SLFS & SALCC affirm their dedication to the success of this collaboration, and they look forward to the welfare and fruits of this partnership.
