Dr Keith Rowley urges for improvement in West Indies Cricket at CARICOM Regional Conference
Dr Keith Rowley, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago and Chairman of the CARICOM Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket attended the opening ceremony of the CARICOM Regional Cricket Conference.

Trinidad and Tobago: Dr Keith Rowley, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago and Chairman of the CARICOM Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket attended the opening ceremony of the CARICOM Regional Cricket Conference. The conference was conducted at the Hyatt Regency, Port of Spain on Thursday, 25th April 2024 with the motive to improve the West Indies Cricket.
The conference was conducted under the theme “Reinvigorating West Indies Cricket” which shed light on the efforts undertaken by the authorities to tackle all the challenges faced by the West Indies Cricket. The event aimed to advance all the formats of the game- Test Matches, One Day Internationals and T20s by taking a collective approach to it.
The ceremony was attended by several delegates which included, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Barbados, Mia Mottley, President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, President of Cricket West Indies (CWI), Dr Kishore Shallow and many more.
All these delegates discussed several topics which included future of the West Indies cricket, ways to enhance the sporting skills among the youth and the development of the business of cricket. The delegation also talked about the CWI Cricket, Performance Framework and Youth and School Programming.
Moreover, PM Keith Rowley also delivered his opening remarks at the conference and highlighted how the game of cricket affects the minds of the citizens of the nation. He stated that when the West Indies players do well in cricket, it becomes a cause of celebration among the citizens. Similarly, it also disappoints the fans when the players fail to stand up to the expectations.
He also gave an example of the renowned players like Brian Lara and Sir Gary Sobers who have registered such prestigious records in their name which is recognized and lauded till date by all the fans. He also motivated all the cricket lovers by stating “We all do not intend to give up on cricket. We intend to defend it and to play the game to the highest level and we’ll get back to the top.”
Along with that, the President of West Indies Cricket, Dr Kishore Shallow also stated that the team will be looking forward to enhancing their game. Along with that the management will also focus on enhancing their revenue streams and forge partnerships that will drive investment in cricket.
The entire conference focused on promoting the game of West Indies cricket which is entirely loved by all the citizens of the Caribbean nation.
