RSLPF recovers firearm & ammunition following police chase

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) recovered a firearm and ammunition near Peynier Street in Castries. It is to be noted that officers had cause to discharge rounds of ammunition in the direction of a male suspect, who sustained injuries.

Notably, the officials conducted a search at about 2:30 am and during patrolling, they had earlier attempted to bring a vehicle to a stop for a traffic infraction.

But unfortunately, the driver drove away, and he eventually stranded his vehicle. Further, a foot pursuit ensued, and in an attempt to escape from officers, the suspect discharged his weapon at the officers, causing the officers to use deadly force.

It is to be added in the remarks police that they recovered a Taurus pistol and live rounds of ammunition from the suspect.

Further to this, the accused was identified as a thirty-year-old (30) resident of Ciceron in Castries. He is currently admitted to a local medical facility in stable condition.

As per the initial inquiries, officials discovered that the 30-Y-O has a remarkable Warrant of Commitment on Conviction for the crime of Possession of a Firearm in his name (name to be released following charges).

Following his conviction, the suspect failed to go along with a court order to pay a fine of sixteen thousand dollars (XCD16000.00).

As soon as this news went viral on social media platforms, many people expressed their views and opinions regarding the matter and the investigation officers.

One such comment by a person named Arthur Chastanent read, “Officers, I am profoundly disappointed; a fool fired shots in the direction of officers, and he lived to tell the tale. He wanted to kill officers, I hope he is dealt with the full extent of the law, such actions should not be tolerated. As far as I see it, that fool should be…. I will not say before FB blocks me, but I am angry.”

Another user, Bryan Preville, reacted by writing, “What will the judge do this time? Grant him bail again. The crime cycle continues.”
