Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne the new CARICOM chairman

Prime Minister of Antigua & Barbuda Gaston Browne declared as the new Chairman of the CARICOM for the next 6 months. PM Gaston Browne had taken over the authority from July 5, 2021 Monday.

New Chairman of CARICOM PM Gaston Browne had succeeded the outgoing Chairman Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr Keith Rowley.

The new CARICOM Chairman has been supposed to find the solution while his continuous working period for the next 6 months to the troubles like the sustained threat to regional development concerning de-risking, the potential for a regional medicinal cannabis market, the reduction of intra-regional air travel taxes.

In 1973 establishing of CARICOM was done to further cooperation and to develop the confidence-building mechanisms that the sovereign and non-independent countries of the Anglophone Caribbean could gently gain.

PM Browne said that the CARICOM these days exceeds the expectations of the generation of the anti-colonial leaders who had constructed the cooperative framework. His generation of leaders, faced with new challenges, would continue to expand the role of CARICOM and the intensity of the friendship of their peoples.

In a statement from the Guyana-based Secretariat of the regional body, PM Gaston Browne, who holds responsibility for Services in CARICOM’s Quasi Cabinet, would be chairing the virtual 42nd meeting of the Conference of Administrators of Government which begins on Monday, July 5. The year’s gathering had noted as the 48th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas.

The official opening session of the current year’s conference would be including the address by the new CARICOM chairman PM Gaston Browne and the former CARICOM Chairman PM Keith Rowley along with Secretary-General of CARICOM Ambassador Irwin LaRocque.

The meeting would be Ambassador LaRocque’s last meeting as the Secretary-General of CARICOM, as he would be succeeded by Dr Carla Barnett, the first-ever woman and Belizean to be selected for the post of CARICOM. Dr Bennett would assume office on August 15 and become the 8th Secretary-General in CARICOM’s history.
