President declares “state of emergency” in prison as 116 died, 6 beheaded & 80 injured in a gang fight at Ecuador Jail

World: Horrific incident has been reported at Ecuador Jail where a total of 116 people died, and six have been beheaded following a fight between two gangs that took place on 28 September 2021. President Guillermo Lasso declared a “state of emergency” in prison.

This state of emergency will give the government powers that include deploying police and soldiers inside prisons.

More than 80 individuals have been injured in the incident.

According to the report of the officials, the fight commenced between two gangs that is – ‘Los Choneros’ and ‘Los Lobos’ over to take control of the lockup.

President of Ecuador Guillermo Lasso, giving his statement on the incident, asserted that, “It is regrettable that the prisons are being turned into terrorists for power disputes by the criminal gangs.”

He further added that the matter would be dealt with complete firmness in order to regain control of the Litoral prison and avoid the violence that has been spreading to other penitentiaries.

The police officers and military vehicles in dozens, as well as ambulances, entered the prison compound on Thursday. Helicopters flew over the area. In the meantime, the national police commander – Col. Tannya Varela, has stated that it is possible more people are injured and lost their lives in the gang battle.

Images that are being got viral on social media reveals dozens of bodies in the prison’s Pavilions 9 and 10 and scenes that looked like battlefields. The fighting was with firearms, knives and bombs, the officials cited.

Earlier, regional police commander – Fausto Buenaño had cited that bodies were being found in the pipelines of prison.

Besides this, the former president of Ecuador’s National Rehabilitation Council – Ledy Zúñiga, asserted that “In the history of our country, there has not been an incident similar or close to this one.”
