PM Terrance Drew inspects ongoing renovations at Cayon High School in follow-up visit
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew made a follow-up visit to the Cayon High School yesterday, to inspect the ongoing renovation work and to ensure a safe environment for the teachers and students.

St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew made a follow-up visit to the Cayon High School yesterday, to inspect the ongoing renovation work and to ensure a safe environment for the teachers and students. This visit marked PM Drew’s second inspection in a week to monitor the updates on the construction going on at the institution.
During his visit, PM Terrance Drew monitored and checked each site, room and development himself and interacted with the workers to learn about the status of the ongoing renovation work.
Prime Minister Drew stated that the Government is making significant investments into renovation work and corrective measures at the Cayon High School. This is done to ensure that students, teachers and ancillary staff return to a completely safe environment.
Sharing on the updates of the work that is currently being undertaken at the Cayon High School PM Drew noted, the authorities are getting the school painted, new doors, new windows, and new furniture being added. Also, the school is being completely cleaned to get rid of any type of contaminant that might be affecting it.
Further, he shared that the Ministry of Education has been earlier dissatisfied with the mould tests then they sought of an alternative method and decided to use ultraviolet (UV) light. The UV light is considered non toxic and makes safer option environment like schools.
To proceed further, the officials are still waiting for the results of the tests conducted after using the UV light method.
PM Terrance Drew stated that currently they have been dealing with a problem, and will overcome it. He mentioned, “The most important thing is the health of our people; the students, teachers, the environmental workers, the guards and the servers, they are our number one priority and that will never be compromised.”
The administration shared that currently the Cayon High School is following a hybrid model for the new term. Under which some students are receiving face-to-face instructions while others are attending classes remotely.
The students taking online classes are using the devices distributed by the government in November 2023, as part of its Enhancing Learning Continuity and Inclusion Project.
In addition, highlighting the consequences of climate change, PM Terrance Drew stated, “we have deemed it extremely necessary to put a task force together to make sure that the environment in St. Kitts and Nevis are safe for our people.”
So, the administration has put together a task force to address the issue of mould in St Kitts and Nevis. It is needed due to an increase in the growth of mould because of the rising temperatures in the federation.
Currently the Task Force consists the Permanent Secretaries (PS) in the Ministries of Sustainable Development, Public Works and Education. Further, it will also include the representation from the St. Kitts and Nevis Bureau of Standards and other filed experts.
Prime Minister Terrance Drew shared the update on his Official Facebook Page, noting, “I continue to visit the Cayon High School to monitor the progress of the extensive work being done. We have invested significantly and will continue to do so even after school begins.”
Additionally, during his last visit to Cayon High School, Prime Minister Terrance Drew was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Dr Geoffrey Hanley, and he shared about the investment made. He stated, “This is the largest sum invested at any one time at Cayon High School in over a decade, and we will continue to invest.”
Moreover, Dr Terrance Drew has been conducting walkthroughs in several societies and yesterday he conducted a visit to the constituents and residents of Cayon.
During his walkthroughs PM Terrance Drew, meets and greets the residents of the locality and engage with them, know their stories and the problems they are undergoing. After that he plans and implements the policies which are need of the hour.
