PM Rowley to attend the 47th CARICOM meeting, headed to Grenada
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has departed for Grenada to participate in the 47th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

On Sunday, in a media release, the Office of the Prime Minister stated that while Dr Rowley is away in Grenada, the Energy Minister, Stuart Young SC will perform the duties of Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has departed for Grenada to participate in the 47th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
OPM stated in Sunday’s addressing that the CARICOM conference will be chaired by Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell. Dr Rowley was accompanied by Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Dr Amery Browne and Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Reginald Armour SC.
The summit will focus on the key issue areas being addressed, which are the CARICOM Single Market and Economy, climate change and sustainable development, agri-food and nutrition security, and the impact on the region by Hurricane Beryl. Such deliberations would have strong implications for policy creation and joint efforts of the member states of CARICOM.
The People’s National Movement (PNM) Women’s League congratulated Chairman Stuart Young, on his acting appointment to the Prime Minister’s office and pledged its support. The League further praised Young, stating that he is well-experienced with long-standing dedicated public service which prepared him for the position.
“Minister Young is a seasoned politician with vast experience in law and public service. His outstanding performance throughout successive public offices and his consistent devotion to the people of Trinidad and Tobago make him a perfect choice to steer our nation during this short period,” the League said.
The PNM National Women’s League sent best wishes to Dr Rowley, too, for his successful journey. “We have full confidence in his leadership and ability to represent Trinidad and Tobago on the regional stage, and we hope that his journey is a successful one,” the group said.
The CARICOM meeting is a big event for Dr Rowley to promote the interests of Trinidad and Tobago in ways that lead to increased regional cooperation on issues important to the Caribbean basin.
