Saint Lucia Police force to carry out Post-Beryl Security Mission in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

With the urgent concern of hurricane ravaged St Vincent and the Grenadines, the St Lucian police officers were set to be the part of a crucial Regional Security System (RSS) safety and security mission, to arrive on Thursday.

The unit of the police officers comprised of ten members from the Special Service Unit (SSU) of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) and were scheduled to leave from Barbados. The objective behind the same was for them to assist the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final.

Commodore Errington Shurland, The Executive Director of the RSS, deduced the event stating that the presence of the organization was to coordinate the activities for safe, efficient and effective deployment of resources to assist the hurricane afflicted Islands to provide adequate security and relief aid.

Military personnel and Police from the RSS Member States were expected to be present by Thursday July 4, on the ground in St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada.

Shurland also explained that the RSS troops are not only positioned over the region but are also equipped sufficiently and ready in all aspects to protect the visitors along with the citizens of the Islands. He also specified that the mentioned support mission was in line with the RSS’s mission to enhance stability among its members and to develop mutual cooperation.

The deployed unit will come directly under the command of the country authorities to perform tasks as necessary.

Grenada and St Vincent and the Grenadines was devastated and left traumatized by the Hurricane Beryl. Several people were rendered homeless, businesses collapsed, connectivity interrupted, and loss of lives was all that was left behind by the storm. The storm also affected Barbados and Saint Lucia.

Director Shurland further stated that the RSS will continue to work aligned with the relevant agencies to ensure that the services and help is delivered swiftly to the ones in need.

The RSS will collaborate with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) to deploy the CARICOM Disaster Relief Unit (CDRU) as quickly as possible.

Additionally, the Executive Director of the RSS conveyed the deepest sympathies and thoughts on behalf of the entire organization to the families and friends of the people who lost their lives and those affected by the atrocities of Hurricane Beryl.
