PM Roosevelt Skerrit shares condolence note on death of Dominica’s Cricket Legend Irving Shellingford

Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, has taken to his social media account to share a condolence message following the death of Dominica’s cricketing legend, Irving Shellingford.

PM Roosevelt Skerrit shares condolence note on death of Dominica's Cricket Legend Irving Shellingford

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, has taken to his social media account to share a condolence message following the death of Dominica’s cricketing legend, Irving Shellingford. Shellingford was a player in the Cricket team west Indies and debuted at 16. The cricket legend was 78 years when he died on January 26, 2023.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit shared an image of Irving Shellingford to accompany his condolence note. The message from Dominica’s executive head of state expressed that he was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dominican cricket legend Irving Shillingford.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerriit noted in his condolence message that We have lost a true icon who brought great joy to the cricket-loving Dominican public. Skerrit added that (Irwin) stood as an example of all that was achievable for Dominican players of the most beloved sport in the West Indies.

Irving Shellingford played for the West Indies Cricket Team in 1977 and 78. Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica informs the people of Dominica that Shellingford is still the only Dominican to have scored a test century. According to PM Skerrit, For an all too brief moment, he represented the dreams and aspirations of many Dominican cricketers who hoped to achieve similar glory.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit expressed that Shellingford never lost his love for the game. He was leading his local club, Cavaliers, well into his 60s. Through his initiative, The cricketing legend inspired several young cricketers to pursue their passion for the sport.

Meanwhile, talking about the cricketer’s career achievements, The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica stated that Irving Shellingford also served as a national selector for many years.

Prime Minister Skerrit expressed that Irving Shillingford was a source of pride while adding that his name is etched in the minds and hearts of the Dominican people. We will continue to honour his memory and celebrate his legacy.
