PM Harris attends OECS virtual meet, discusses significant matters

Basseterre: St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris, on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, participated in the 71st Meeting of the OECS Authority. The meeting was conducted via a virtual platform. The meeting held discussions on some significant matters, including the impact of the deadliest COVID-19 and its response.  

Apart from this, the Caribbean member states also underscored and held discussions on the current scenario of the region’s tourism and education. 

The prime minister was accompanied by Ambassador Vance Amory, Sydney Osborne – Ambassador to the OECS Commissioner, Mr Samuel Berridge, Assistant Secretary in the Regional Integration and Diaspora Unit and Bjorn Hazel, Foreign Service Officer. 

Leaders of the other member states also participated in the virtual meet of OECS – Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, including Dominican Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, Ralph Gonsalves, the prime minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines.   

PM Skerrit tweeted, “On Wednesday, I virtually participated in the 71st Meeting of the OECS Authority. The meeting discussed the impact of the #Omicron variant of #COVID19 on the sub-region, updates on issues related to education, tourism and the economy”. 

The previous meeting of the Caribbean organisation took place on January 13, 2022.  

ABOUT OECS: 

It is an inter-governmental organisation that is being dedicated to economic harmonisation and integration, protection of human and legal rights, and the encouragement of good governance between the nations and territories in the Eastern Caribbean. It also serves the role of spreading responsibility and liability in the event of a natural disaster. 

The administrative body of OECS lies in Castries, which is the capital city of Saint Lucia. The organisation first became operative on June 18, 1981.
