PM Drew discusses ideas of economic development with IMF members

St Kitts and Nevis: The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew held the discussions with the members of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission. This was held under the Article IV consultation discussions on economic development.

In the meeting, Hilary Hazel and the Deputy Financial Secretary, Sylvia Manning-Gumbs participated. The discussions will play a great role in improving the work on Article IV.

The IMF delegates visited St Kitts and Nevis and attended the meeting, where they had talks about the financial and economic issues. Along with it, they outlined the nation’s goals for creating a sustainable island state. Prime Minister Drew stated that the visit is extremely important.

Also, on Saturday of last week, the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Philip Jennings, and Deputy Managing Director Bo Li’s team had a meeting with the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis.

The discussions before the 107th Meeting of the Monetary Council of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) have been centered around several financial and other economic issues.

The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s office. During the meeting, the Prime Minister added that understanding the steps needed to realize the sustainable island state agenda has been greatly aided by the conversation with the IMF. The conference also revealed several advancements made by the Federation in the direction of the little island nation’s growth and development.

Additionally, PM Drew highlighted several measures, such as the introduction of legislation promoting good governance, innovative renewable energy projects, improvements to the Citizenship by Investment program, and developments in water management.

During the discussion, emphasis was also laid on initiatives to support the tourism industry through more flights, cruise ship visits, and travel.

Director Bo Li spoke to the group as well, praising St Kitts and Nevis‘s goals and initiatives to achieve independence. Along with expressing pleasure with the nation’s impressive progress toward resilience building and climate adaptation, he reaffirmed the IMF’s commitment to aiding ECCU members, particularly through lending, technical assistance, and policy recommendations.
