Phillip J Pierre sworn in as the 8th Prime Minister of St Lucia

St Lucia, the Eastern Caribbean island, got its new Prime Minister yesterday. When the leader of St Lucia Labour Party, Phillip Joseph Pierre, was sworn in as Prime Minister of the country for 1st time. Phillip J Pierre had taken the oath as 8th Prime Minister of St Lucia.

On Monday, SLP with a massive victory in the general elections of St Lucia with winning 13 parliamentary constituencies out of 17 parliamentary constituencies. At the same time, the UWP won only 2 out of 17 parliamentary constituencies, while the other two were won by independent candidates.

According to the outgoing PM Allen Chastanet, Monday’s general election has come as a “shock”. Allen Chastanet congratulated Phillip J Pierre for winning the 2021 general elections.

Facts about Prime Minister Phillip J Pierre:

1: The new Prime Minister of St Lucia, Phillip J Pierre, was born in Castries, and he had a good family background. His mother was a school teacher, and his father was a cop.

2: Phillip J Pierre completed his studies at Saint Mary’s College, where he completed his degree in B.A. (Hons) in economics and MBA from the University of West Indies.

3: Phillip J Pierre then started teaching in Saint Mary’s College and worked as a trainee manager at JQ Charles Ltd. Phillip J Pierre then started his career in the finance industry. In Coopers & Lybrand and Panell kerr Froster, PM Pierre worked as an audit clerk. As a financial controller at Stanthur Co. Ltd.

4: From 1985 to 1994, Pierre also worked as the Director at the National Research and Development Corporation and from 1990 to 1997, he served as Chief Executive of his management consultancy firm, Philip J. Pierre Business Services Ltd.

5: Pierre joined the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) in 1985 and served as the party treasurer from 1986 to 1992. In 1992, he contested the general elections for the first time in Castries East but did not win. After serving as the SLP chairman from 1992 to 1996, Pierre ran again in 1997 and won.
