People’s National Movement: Jovani John, a saga of miracle

Trinidad and Tobago: People’s National Movement of Trinidad and Tobago presented a piece of good news covered by Liz Williams. Tracy-Ann James of Mt. Marie Road, Scarborough, Tobago, gives God all the praise and glory for what she can only describe as a beautiful miracle bestowed on her only son, Jovani John.

It all started in 2018, when Jovani John was born prematurely at only one (1) Pound and subsequently diagnosed with a very rare condition called Subglottic Hemangioma, i.e., where a large mass blood vessel in the airway causes a blockage which results in severe respiratory distress.

Upon identification of this significant challenge, the Doctors in Tobago moved swiftly. They transferred Jovani to Eric Williams Medical Science Complex (EWMSC) for immediate attention by specialist Doctors in the E.N.T Department.

Ms. James heaps praise on the E.N.T Doctors who did not hesitate, after completing a series of tests and evaluations, took Jovani into surgery where they performed a delicate procedure called a Tracheostomy which allows a tube to be placed through the front of the neck and into the windpipe to help Jovani breathe and experience life as we know it.

Throughout the last two and a half years, after the procedure, Ms. James indicated that the E.N.T Doctors made Jovani a priority case, and she is indeed grateful. During this period, there were many challenges, but chief among them was knowing that Jovani would not have been able to speak or make any independent sounds. 

Imagine Jovani crying where tears would have flowed but no sound whatsoever! Ms. James recounted sleepless nights where Jovani required constant attention and supervision 24/7. However, she believes in God and forgives Jovani, a fighting spirit to overcome all obstacles.

She highlighted the fact that in order for Jovani to have enjoyed a decent quality of life during the period, she had to purchase a suction machine which was necessary to clear any build-up of secretion in his airway.

Ms. James is happy to report after a series and tests were performed on Jovani at a scheduled case review on 19th February 2021, it was discovered that the growth disappeared.
