Castries, Saint Lucia: Saint Lucia celebrated World Tourism Day on Wednesday with exciting activities. The celebration was held under the theme- “Tourism and Green Investment”.
Tourism authority – Travel Saint Lucia greeted their people on the event of ‘World Tourism Day’ through their official Facebook handle. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) celebrated September 27th as ‘World Tourism Day’ under the theme ‘Tourism and Green Investment’. The date marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Statutes of the Organization in 1970.
Being a tourist attraction, they shared a video on their Facebook page of some eye-catching places from Soufrière to Castries, which will help travel enthusiasts explore the country.

Tourism Minister – Ernest Hilaire on World Tourism Day:
Saint Lucia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister, Ernest Hilaire, greeted people at this event. He highlighted the island’s commitment to promote green investments in the sector.
They asked the industry to wear BLUE in pursuance of World Tourism Day (WTD), which is the official colour of World Tourism Day.
Ministry of Tourism on World Tourism Day – Launched the calendar of activities :
The Ministry of Tourism launched the calendar of activities for World Tourism Day on September 6th, 2023, Wednesday. The launch took place at 10 a.m., chaired by the Public Relations Manager of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, Ms. Geraine Georges. It was held at the GIS studio.
Some of the events included:
1. A church service, ‘Community Tourism Day’, along with an official observance, held within the constituency of Micoud, a Tourism Policy Round Table.
2. A culinary showdown.
3. ‘Blaze-in-Blue’.
The SLHTA felicitated Karolin Troubetzkoy on her appointment as Board Chair of the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF). The agency said, “She will be an asset to the CBF team, its donors, Partners and other stakeholders.”
World Tourism Day:
World Tourism Day was initially established in September 1979 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and it authoritatively began in 1980. In 1997, the UNWTO decided to host World Tourism Day in a designated country each year, which is Turkey.
