Out of 92 countries, Barbados skips the queue to receive COVID-19 vaccines from India

Barbados: Barbados acquired 100,000 Covishield COVID-19 vaccines from India on Monday, February 8, 2021.

Recently, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley wrote a letter to Indian PM Narendra Modi seeking an adequate supply of COVID-19 vaccines for the nation.

According to information over 92 countries have applied for Covishield COVID-19 vaccine from India, but Barbados is the only Caribbean island to get the required amount of vaccines, which is enough to vaccinate over 25% of its population.

The consignments of vaccines, produced by the Serum Institute of India (SII), dispatched from Mumbai at 11:35 pm on Sunday.

Due to the strong leadership and firm management of PM Mottley, Barbados managed to procure vaccine before any other Caribbean nation.

Barbados, with a population of over 2.87 lakhs, these 100,000 Covishield vaccines will cover around 25% of the nation’s population accounting double doses.

On the other hand, if people were set to be given single doses, the particular quantity can cover 50% of the entire population.

Recently UK PM, Boris Johnson had announced that when 20% of the population gets vaccinated, the government will take off the national curfew or any other lockdown.

It indicates that if Barbados completed their vaccination of 25% of the population, it would be secure and safe enough to open the lockdown and resuming life back to normal. This news is a ray of hope for every resident of Barbados.

Reports say that the current government of Barbados followed an effective plan of action during the COVID-19 situation. PM Mottley managed the country with will and wisdom.

The status of the economy is balanced, and there are more recoveries than the active cases in the past one week.

Earlier, several people were under stress due to rising coronavirus cases in Barbados, but recent recoveries indicate the bright future ahead.

It will not just help to defeat coronavirus, but it will give a sense of relief to the people.

Once again, PM Mottley’s leadership and her personal relations proved that she chooses people over politics and will continue to do so. Barbados managed an excellent strategy to safeguard the people of the nation and maintain the economy as well.

Recently, 60 people were discharged from the isolation, and 51 people got recovered from lethal coronavirus.

Some other Caribbean countries like St Lucia and Antigua and Barbuda weren’t able to balance the COVID-19 situation well. It leads the nation to fall under the red zone and till date there is no announcement about national vaccination programme.

Consequently, both the countries are enduring an economic crisis, and in simple words, the country is broke.
