Caribbean: Vincentians received the first shipment of 5,400 bottles of water from Martinique after a meeting of the OECS Authority.

OECS posted, “Vincentians to benefit from the first shipment of 5,400 bottles of water sent by the Collectivity of Martinique today after the emergency meeting of the OECS Authority.“

Furthermore, they added, it was followed up by a meeting between the President of the Collectivity of Martinique, the Prefet of Martinique and the Ambassador of France to the OECS based in Saint Lucia.

At the end of an emergency-meeting of the Authority of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) on Monday, April 12, 2021, the President of the Executive Council of the Collective Territorial of Martinique, Alfred MARIE-JEANNE, exchanged with the Prefect and the Ambassador of France based in Saint Lucia, to better coordinate the aid of Martinique.

Following these exchanges, the first shipment of 10 pallets of water bottles of 5,400 bottles will be sent this Tuesday, April 13, 2021, by the Ventôse surveillance frigate of the West Indies’ armed forces. A CTM-Prefecture technical coordination unit has been set up. Institutions, associations and the population will be informed of the procedures that will be defined.

A resident, Ash Brown, commented, “After this disaster, SVG will be inundated with plastic bottles. Let’s hope they can be recycled and not become litter.”

UN declared, Volcanic eruption made the entire community of St Vincent without clear water in the country.

Along with the Caribbean-Disaster Emergency Management Agency, the UN had registered pre-positioned water and sanitation hygiene stocks currently stocked in near-by Barbados.

Besides this, it is vital to lean the ash around homes and displace ashfall in garbage bags since ashfall professes a substantial hazard to the people’s infrastructure and lives. Water should not be used at this moment to wipe surfaces such as roofs as it makes the ashfall slippery and heavier in weight.
