Nine-year-old travels solo from Antigua to Montserrat in Optimist boat
14-year-old Carrick Jones 100-mile solo journey from Antigua to St Maarten in approx. 30 hours played a huge role in motivating and inspiring the youngsters. Following him, Yves Cabais Martin made his way into the sailing activity.

Antigua and Barbuda: 14-year-old Carrick Jones’s 100-mile solo journey from Antigua to St Maarten in approx 30 hours played a huge role in motivating and inspiring the youngsters. Following him, Yves Cabais Martin made his way into the sailing activity.
It is to be noted that Yves Cabais Martin travelled to Little Bay Montserrat from Pearns Point, Antigua. The 9-year-old sailed solely in an Optimist boat, showcasing his skills and bravery.
Moreover, the Carrick Jones family also set up a special award in order to recognize those children who sailed 30 miles or more. Therefore, Yves will also be awarded for exhibiting fearless and courageous behaviour.
Carrick Jones has the record in his name of the longest distance sailed in an Optimist dinghy from Antigua to St Maarten unassisted. When he arrived at the destination, he was barely able to stand, but he fulfilled his desire and turned his dream into a reality of sailing solo and breaking the world record.
Various residents of the community also took to their social media accounts and extended congratulations to Yves and appreciated him for his bravery.
One person commented, “I used to sail out towards Monserrat in our sunfish dingy as it would really get up on a plane out there in the trades. Of course, one mishap could have put us in a world of trouble. I’m sure you had a companion boat.”
“It is awesome and fantastic. Congratulations to you” wrote the other person.
Moreover, the tourism authority of Antigua and Barbuda has also unveiled the schedule of Antigua Sailing Week. The activities will begin in the month of April and it promises to offer the best sailing conditions and the finest landslide yachting facilities to the sailors.
The sailing activities provide a thrilling, challenging and breathtaking experience that every sailor wants to try. Moreover, Antigua Sailing Week is also known for its courses and challenging conditions. One of the most attractive features of the Week is that it provides the most beautiful atmosphere to its sailors with white sandy beaches, lush green forests and crystal-clear waters.
