Nickecoy Bramwell claims historic victory, breaks 22-year-old unbeaten record

Jamaica: Nickecoy Bramwell created history by breaking the unbeaten 22-year-old record set by one of the most renowned athletes in the world, Usain Bolt. This history was created by Bramwell in the 51st edition of the CARIFTA Games conducted at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium. 

Bramwall who participated in the 400m Under-17 at CARIFTA 2024 won the gold medal by finishing in the race in 47.26 seconds. He not only secured a gold medal but also surpassed the record which was set by the legendary athlete, Usain Bolt.

With his unwavering commitment and dedication, Nickecoy Bramwell broke Usain Bolt’s previous mark of 47.33 seconds set by him in the year 2002. His continuous efforts and dedication towards his goal have led him to experience this beautiful victory. 

The silver and bronze medals were won by Grenadian Kemron Mathlyn and Bahamian athlete Eagan Neely who finished their races in 47.96 and 48.16, respectively. 

Following his victory, Bramwell shared in an interview that he has been eyeing this achievement since last year and after breaking the record, he is extremely happy to have accomplished his goal. 

He added that it was very challenging for him due to the hamstring injury he had suffered in the preceding months, but he said that he took his mind off the injury and concentrated only on the record in order to achieve what he wished for.

Usain Bolt, who is known as the Fastest Man in the world has brought several laurels to the nation and breaking such an established athlete’s record shed light on the determination and focus that he has shown in his field over the years. 

The 16-year-old young Jamaican has won the entire nation’s heart and applause following his historic victory. The citizens acknowledged his hard work and talent and started calling him another bolt. 

After his remarkable victory, social media flooded with best wishes for him. Several residents of Jamaica took to their official Facebook accounts and wished Bramwell his victory. 

One person with a Facebook account Keisha Lewis commented “Congratulations to you and your accomplishments, that’s okay breaking a fellow Jamaican record I am super proud it is a Jamaican who did.”

Another person with a Facebook handle Soy Stacy commented the following “Yessss! Another bolt! Couldn’t wait to hear that it’s another Jamaica rise to greatness again. Keep up the good work and congratulations.”
