Kingston, Jamaica: A forty-one-year-old man was arrested in the Kitson Town area and charged with raping a 14-year-old on two separate occasions in 2022. He is to appear before the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday.
It is to be noted that the suspect was identified as Tyrone Cooper, also called ‘Bigga.’ He is a resident of Cudjoes Hill near Point Hill in St Catherine.
According to the reports, it is believed that Cooper was arrested with multiple charges of two counts of rape, two counts of sexual touching of a child and sexual assault to the minor. A teen girl has given her statement that she was raped two times on two different occasions.
A case was registered and reported against Bigga on Thursday. When the matter was reported, police immediately responded and searched the 41-year-old. Notably, the officials arrested him in the Kitson Town area, where he was detained, taken into custody, and subsequently charged.
Further, he was questioned about the allegations placed against him, and he is supposed to appear before the St Catherine Parish Court on February 16, 2024.
As soon as the news spread to social media, people across the region took to their social media handles (Facebook) and expressed their concern regarding the spike in crimes in the country.
While reacting to the news, a person named Sullivan Dwyer commented, “This guy turn around the numbers. Why dem nuh just hand dem demon ya.”
Another FB user named Richard Dass wrote, “Not another one. Police needs to take drastic action before it is too late. He is a treat he need to be put behind bars and remains there for the rest of his life I can imagine that young girl fear.”
With the rising rate of crime, people are now asking authorities to take quicker action. The nation records a rapid increase in the crime rate. People are experiencing such incidents on every alternative day. The government and police are suggested to take serious actions and implement strict rules towards the culprits.
