Lindsay Thompson participates in Strategies for Climate Action virtually

Bahamas: Lindsay Thompson, Senior Information Officer at Bahamas Information Services (BIS), participated in Strategies for Climate Action, an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) Alumni Salon Series, which officially opened virtually on Monday, April 19, 2021. Lindsay also serves as the Public Information Officer for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

She was among members of the IVLP Alumni representing more than 80 countries, invited to participate in the series focused on climate change, renewable energy, building back better and other related topics. The keynote speaker for the opening session was Dr Denise Keele, PhD, of Western Michigan University, who spoke on the subject, “Addressing U.S. Public Policy and the Economics of Clean Energy and Environmental Protection.”

Lindsay was delighted to reconnect with members of her IVLP 2017 group and the broader Alumni. The knowledge exchanged, sharing of best practices and an insight into how countries are tackling impacts on their environment and other climate change issues. Lindsay previously participated in the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, IVLP focused on “Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management” in 2017.

The Strategies for Climate Action salon series coincides with Earth Day, which will be celebrated this Thursday, April 22, 2021(today). The program concludes on May 4, 2021.

Moreover, Prime Minister of Bahamas- Hubert Minnis declared changes in travel guidelines for fully vaccinated travellers moving in and arriving at The Bahamas, referencing information displayed by the Ministry of Health one day earlier.

PM Minnis also summarised some points highlighted by Dr Merceline Dahl-Regis during her performance about the current state of the coronavirus pandemic at the Ministry of Health press conference, entertained on Tuesday, April 20th, 2021.

He moreover stated that Dr Dahl Regis remarked that the pandemic is not over. It is continuously introducing new challenges, and at this time, vaccinations simply will not get us out of this pandemic.
