Grenadian sprinter Kirani James has secured a spot for the finals of the men’s 400 meters of the 2024 Paris Olympics. This may be a record-breaking moment for the athlete.
James is in a quest of achieving yet another record of securing the fourth Olympic medal in this category, which will eventually reserve him a dignified position in the history of athletics.
In the semifinals, James put up an excellent show of performance, he won his heat with a tremendous performance in a time of 43.78 seconds. Although it was a very good performance, but was slightly below his own records, meaning that the 31-year-old will be in top condition as he enters the final stages.
James came to the international limelight after the year 2012 London Olympics to win the gold medal in 400 meters and got the title to be the first Grenadian medalist of Olympics. This was preceded by a silver at the Rio Olympics and a bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, proving his mastery of the sport for the last few years.
Competing against James in the finals is Trinidadian Jareem Richards who also equally performed well. Richards clocked 44.33 seconds in semifinal, one to secure his final place and further heighten the feel of enthusiasm of Caribbean participation in the occasion.
The 400 meters final for men will be schedule at 3:20 pm Grenadian time. James is hoped to be the one to beat in the fastest qualifier, and the people of Grenada and the Caribbean will be waiting on the edge of this seat to witness him create history.
In the case that James gets to clinch a medal and achieve victory, it will not only be a plus to his own career but also act as another landmark in the achievements of athletes hailing from the titchy island nation of Grenada to encourage other sprinters from the part of the world to follow suite.
