Jammu and Kashmir govt to construct over 50 sports venues across 20 districts

Jammu and Kashmir, India: To maximise the athletic potential of the region’s youth, the government of Jammu and Kashmir plans to build up to 56 sports venues and facilities across its twenty (20) districts.

Three sports stadiums/centres will be built in each of the remaining districts, with the exception of three, so that UT-level tournaments can also be hosted there.

A notice for the construction of a sports field has been published by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council under the Khelwandia District Level Centres under the Sports Authority of India (70/KI/SKIC-Slamall-J&K/2020-21 Maharhra, dated February 8, 2023).

In the Srinagar district, stadiums for football, hockey, and gymnastics will be built. Cycling, Wushu, and Kabaddi will be played in Budgam. Badminton, volleyball, and Thang Ta in Ganderbal. Hockey, football, and boxing in Bandipora. Volleyball, Khokhu, and Kabaddi will be focused on in Kulgam. T In Pulwama, there is an expectation that wrestling, hockey, table tennis, and skating will be played in Pulwama; in Shopian, there will be volleyball and taekwondo; and in Kupwara, there will be football, khokhu and kabaddi.

Similarly, table tennis, soft tennis and hockey in the Jammu district, volleyball, boxing and wrestling in Samba, table tennis, handball and basketball in Udhampur, football and rowing in Kathua, and gymnastics in Reasi, Archery, Yoga, Table Tennis in Doda, Volleyball, Athletes and Thug Ta in Kishtwar, Kabaddi and Football in Ramban, Wrestling and Table Tennis in Rajouri and Football, Badminton and Volleyball in Poonch. Construction on a football field is underway in Charlan Fazalabad.

The government has issued an invitation to qualified athletes to submit applications for positions as coach, mentor, and champion athlete at the aforementioned sports stadium.

According to an official, athletes who have competed for India and are recognised by the National Sports Federation of India (NSF) in their respective sports will receive first preference. Athletes who have earned medals at Senior National Championships or Khelo India competitions will receive second preference.

The players who are representing the state in the Senior National Championship who are recognised by NSF and have taken part in the Khelo India Games will receive the third priority, while the medalist in the All India University Championship will receive the fourth.
