Jamaica: Railway Corporation to reveal the first phase of tourist train
The Jamaica Railway Cooperation (JRC) has taken a leap in its tourism industry by attempting to launch the first phase of the tourist train. The train is set to run between Montpelier, St James and Appleton Manor in St Elizabeth.

Jamaica: The Jamaica Railway Cooperation (JRC) has taken a leap in its tourism industry by attempting to launch the first phase of the tourist train. The train is set to run between Montpelier, St James and Appleton Manor in St Elizabeth.
The organization continues to await the opening of other freight and passenger train services between Spanish Town and Kingston.
In addition, the company is completing the implementation of a commercial rail service from Bodles Junction to St Catherine’s Linstead, mainly for the transport of aggregates.
The project requires the construction of new and renovated railways, the construction of new locomotives and special engines. In addition, since the expected train is intended for tourist use, the authorities demanded renovation of the infrastructures on the route.
The project is a stepping stone in JRC’s efforts to improve overall performance by expanding and revitalizing rail service and optimizing financial results. JRC has also introduced special measures this year to provide an enjoyable experience to tourists arriving in the country.
According to the sources, JRC also plans to start meetings with private investors to secure funds for the development of railway infrastructure, renewal of rolling stock, addition of new trains and upgrading of the Kingston workshop.
In the meantime, the organization plans to continue monetizing its real estate assets to maximize returns.
In addition, the company plans to increase the rental space and properties and create a cashless rent payment system for tenants.
