Jamaica: PM Andrew Holness extends warm wishes on International Reggae Day 2023

Kingston, Jamaica: Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, has recently extended his heartfelt wishes to the general public and residents of Jamaica on the occasion of International Reggae Day 2023 on July 1, 2023.

Prime Minister has called all his fellow nationals to celebrate the special occasion under the theme ‘Saluting the Global Influence of the 80s and 90s Dancehall – From Bruckins to Bogle”.

As per the information, Prime Minister Andrew Holness reached out to the Jamaicans through his official online platforms and expressed his joy and happiness.

While expressing his immense pleasure towards the celebrations of International Reggae Day, 2023, he wrote in his remarks, “Today, we celebrate International Reggae Day under the theme, ‘Saluting the Global Influence of the 80s and 90s Dancehall – From Bruckins to Bogle”.

Furthermore, he took time to acknowledge the essential and significant role played by the people of the Reggae community. Meanwhile, he extends his congratulations honouring the pioneers who paved the way and acknowledging their invaluable contribution to the Reggae legacy.

On his part, PM Holness further noted, “It reminds us of the vibrant dancehall culture that emerged during that era, captivating audiences with its infectious energy and dance moves”.

He mentioned that Reggae music holds a special place in the hearts of the Jamaicans, which unites them with each other.

Moreover, “The global impact of Reggae music has solidified our nation’s position as a beacon of creativity, authenticity, and artistic expression”, added the Prime Minister.

While further elaborating on the instance, he also emphasized that “On this International Reggae Day, Let us use Reggae music to spread peace, love, and unity around the globe. Happy International Reggae Day, Jamaica! 1 Love!”.

Through such celebrations, the nation celebrates the existence and special importance of the legendary Reggae Music and its culture, said the Prime minister. The special occasion falls on July 1 every year, and the entire nation comes together to celebrate Reggae’s legacy.

In addition, it was said that on July 1, International Reggae Day is celebrated. The Caribbean country celebrates the best Jamaican creativity and its worldwide impact using the power of #music to unite. As per the genre history, you might not know that # Reggae is a music genre that originated in #Jamaica in the late 1960s.

It was also said that the term denotes Jamaica’s modern popular music and diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, “Do the Reggay”, was the first popular song to use the word reggae, effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience.

While sometimes used in a broad sense to refer to most types of popular Jamaican dance music, the term reggae more properly denotes a particular music style that was strongly influenced by traditional mento as well as American #jazz and #rnb and evolved out of the earlier genres #ska and #rocksteady.
