St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis – Dr Terrance Drew, shares a glimpse of the celebration the independence day on September 19.
PM Drew highlighted that this year the Independence ceremony was celebrated under the theme – Refocus, Recreate, Redesign: Independence 39.
“Today, our patriotic pride as a people has been on full display as a nation for our Independence Anniversary, observed under the theme: ‘Refocus, Re-create, Redesign: Independence 39’,” he stated through his social media.
Furthermore, he praised the armed and unarmed units and mentioned, “I must commend our various armed and unarmed units who participated in today’s ceremonial parade, displaying their skills and discipline. Also, it was quite heartwarming to see so many of you, the spectators, gathered for the occasion dressed in your national colours and various outfits.”
When the flag was raised on September 19 1983, so too were the hopes and dreams of the people of the Federation. The citizens are proud people, hopeful people led by the forefathers and foremothers from British colonial to dream of freedom and self-sufficiency. Each Independence season, it seems only right for us to ask, “Are we truly independent? Are our people free? The debates are lively and robust, but we can all agree that our Federation has come a long way since that day 39 years ago.”
He concluded and outlined that the work continues to better the nation in moving forward. We are bound together as a people with such a common destiny.
