India: Japan govt promises to provide jobs to Manipur’s youth

Manipur, India: A team from the Japanese government and the chief minister of Manipur have decided to start new initiatives, including training programmes for Manipuri youth to give them greater employment chances in Japan and other countries.

The chief minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, met with a Japanese delegation led by Suzuki Hiroshi, the ambassador of Japan to India, to address a number of developmental concerns between Manipur and Japan. Both parties agreed to strengthen their cordial ties with each other.

On Thursday, the Japanese ambassador met with the chief minister of Manipur in person at his office.

On his Facebook page, the Chief Minister wrote, “I was called by Mr Suzuki Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to India, at my secretariat office today.”

“Had a fruitful discussion regarding various projects in Manipur, including skilling Manipuri youths to provide them with better job opportunities in Japan and other parts of the world,” the CM continued in the post.

The Chief Minister of Manipur invited the Japanese envoy to check into the expeditions on the second phase of Japan’s sericulture project because he appreciated Japan’s friendly gesture towards continuing their collaboration and dedication to the development of Manipur.

According to sources close to the CM, Manipur’s first Japanese sericulture initiative was successful.

Since World War II, there has been no contact between Japan and Manipur.

The violent World War II fighting between the Japanese Army and the British Army of the Allies took place at Maibam Lokpa Ching, a hillock located 14 kilometres from Imphal and one of Manipur’s historic sites.

At this location, a peace memorial now exists and is a popular tourist destination.
