India: Imphal to host tri-nation friendly football competition in March
Imphal, India: The Hero Tri-Nation Friendly Football competition will be held in Manipur’s capital at the Khuman Lampak Stadium.

Imphal, India: The Hero Tri-Nation Friendly Football competition will be held in Manipur’s capital at the Khuman Lampak Stadium. On March 22, 24, and 26, games will be contested between India, Myanmar, and the Kyrgyz Republic.
On Monday, Manipur’s Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, announced the competition. During this announcement, the All India Football Federation’s president and secretary-general were also present.
The CM spoke during the event and said, “We are getting to host international friendlies in Manipur for the first time in history thanks to a fantastic initiative by the AIFF leadership. I can guarantee everyone on our end that the Government of Manipur will make every effort to offer the best amenities and support the tournament’s successful organisation.”
M. Biren Singh, who is also a football player, stated that his state significantly contributes to Indian Football. He expressed gratitude to the AIFF for bringing the match to the northeastern state, saying that it would be a source of great motivation for the local football players and fans.
He also asked the federation to help establish a world-class football academy in the state to develop young people’s abilities. A strategic road plan has been created as part of Vision 2047 for the national promotion and outreach of the game and its participants.
Additionally, this will be the first visit by the Indian Senior National Football Team to Imphal, Manipur. The AIFF president, Kalyan Chaubey, also expressed his satisfaction over holding the games in the stadium, which has hosted numerous significant games over the years.
He also discussed the fan base that this game has in the region. Along with complementing the state’s CM for his excitement, he also pledged to create infrastructure for the state’s youth.
Secretary General Dr Shaji Prabhakaran said, “Manipur is a state with enormous footballing potential, and we expect that bringing international football here will give local football a big boost and have a beneficial impact on Indian Football.”
