Jamaica: A flash flood watch is in effect for Jamaica after Hurricane Beryl churns away from the island nation. The Hurricane Warning has been discontinued for the country but still the citizens have been asked to be vigilant and alert in order to protect themselves from any uncertainty.

According to Jamaica Meteorological Service, at 10:00 pm, the Hurricane Beryl was located near Latitude 18 degrees North and Longitude 79.2 degrees West. As per the details, the Beryl is now moving toward the west-northwest near 21 mph. A westward to west-northwestward motion was seen the next day which took the core of the hurricane away from Jamaica and just south of the Cayman Islands overnight.

Notably, Jamaica is now outside of the range of hurricane force winds from Hurricane Beryl and with storm surge no longer posing a threat to the coastal areas of the island. However, as per the information shared by Jamaica Meteorological Service, the rainfall associated with Beryl will continue to affect sections of the island which might also increase the chance of flash flooding. It could also be accompanied by strong, gusty winds as the eye of the hurricane moves away from the west coast of the island.

Therefore, the government of Jamaica urged all the small craft operators to remain in port until the sea conditions get back to normal.

Hurricane Beryl is now churning toward the Cayman Islands and Mexico, which has left a trail of destruction in Southern Jamaica. The devastation brought down power lines, took roofs off houses and left hundreds of people homeless and in shelters.

Along with that, the Norman Manley International Airport of Jamaica also suffered damages in a small section of the roof of the passenger boarding pier due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl. The damage and devastation were confirmed by the operators at the airport who added that the infrastructure is intact and the situation is being controlled. The airport was made shut and will remain to be closed until further notice.
