Horrific incident: Fuel tanker explosion kills over 60 in Haiti, dozens of severely injured

Port-u-Prince: In a horrific and heartwrenching incident reported in Haiti, a fuel tanker exploded, taking the lives of more than 60 people and dozens of injured on Tuesday in Cap-Haïtien. This incident even set on blaze nearby 40 homes. 

Condoling and expressing his emotions on the drastic incident, Prime Minister Ariel Henry announced three days of mourning for the ones who lost their lives, adding the whole Caribbean nation is grieving. He also visited the scene, meeting Doctors to gain updates.  

Deputy Mayor Patrick Almonor noted that he witnessed almost 50 persons burning alive. 

It is believed the driver lost control while saving the truck getting collided with the motorcycle taxi, following which the truck turned over.  

Healthcare facilities fears that the death toll might rise as the individuals have sustained intense injuries, having 60% burns on their body. 

Meanwhile, Mayor Yvrose Pierre cited an emergency need for human and material resources to cure severe burns. 

“We do not have the ability to treat the number of seriously burned people. I’m afraid we won’t be able to save them all,” one of the nurses at the Justinien University Hospital stated while talking to the media. 

Field hospitals have also been placed by the Haitian government for the treatment of the injured. 

People all around the world are bemoaning over the horrendous incident. 

Soon after the truck flipped, people gathered around to collect the fuel, risking their lives. 

The impoverished island of the Latin American and Caribbean region is currently battling with numerous issues such as – political instability, fuel shortage, high crime rate, gang violence, poverty and hunger crisis. 

The Haitian government has assured that every possible assistance would be provided by them to save the injured.
