Haitian gang leader – Jimmy Barbecue Cherizier stated that he is temporary lifting the blockade of fuel terminals, which led to the severe fuel shortage in the island country.
It has been almost a month since the fuel terminals have been blocked that risked the lives of hundreds of pregnant women and children, including the COVID-19 patients, as the hospitals suffered a shortage of fuel. The gangs stopped trucks from reaching the Varreux fuel terminal outside the capital, Port-au-Prince.
The gang leader cited, “The doors of the Varreux plant are wide open so that the trucks can get their supplies without any fear. Hospitals, schools, universities, embassies must reopen and be able to supply themselves without any problem”.
This whole situation limited the operations of schools, hospitals and other businesses, while some of the schools were shut completely. Amid the current situation of the most impoverished island in the Caribbean region, the United States and Canadian government warned its citizens that living in Haiti can be proved to be dangerous and that they should leave the country.
Haiti is witnessing deepening insecurity, a hike in murders, increasing gang violence, which has forced Haitians to migrate to other countries such as – United States. The lives of people residing in Haiti is not safe; a fear has been engraved in their minds that they can be abducted at any time. Haitians are begging for their lives from the gang leaders.
Jimmy earlier asked Prime Minister Ariel Henry to resign from his position, or he is ready to eliminate him at the cost of his blood. Not only this, but the gang leader also asked the United Nations organization and the United States to break their bilateral ties with the Haitian Prime Minister if they want to liberate the island nation.
The situation in Haiti is getting worse as it battles with several issues at one time, such as – COVID-19 outbreak, poverty and hunger crisis, including high crime rate.
