Guyana: Region 10 residents raises significant concern!

Guyana: Region 10 residents raise primary concerns the previous day that will be addressed at Cabinet.

Prime Minister, Brigadier (retired) Mark Phillips, through the outreach of Ministers and Members of Parliament to Upper Demerara – Berbice (Region 10) yesterday, announced that the matters raised by citizens of the region will be discussed at the Cabinet-level and could form part of the 2021 Budget or be involved in Government’s plans for improvement going forward.

The PM continued that the outreach, which was led by His Excellency, Dr. Irfaan Ali, illustrates the administration’s engagement to inclusionary governance.

The Prime Minister said, too, that after canvassing throughout the Country, the Government of Guyana is satisfying its promise by returning to communities to discuss residents’ concerns.

The PM visited Kwakwani and the inhabitants of Hururu and Landreville in the Berbice River. He was conducted by the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Member of Parliament, Hon Sheila Veersammy, and the Minister of Labour, Hon Joseph Hamilton. Among citizens’ concerns everywhere, the outreach was access to the internet, infrastructure development, agricultural development, youth development, and unemployment.

Office of the President also referred that Irfaan Ali commanded the oath of office to Mayors and Deputy Mayors from districts across the Country. Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Hon Nigel Dharamlall, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Hon Anand Persaud, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Hon Gail Teixeira were among the Officials present.

A Facebook user commented, “Why don’t you make good laws to protect all those vulnerable people from the Bandits that are running Amok in your Country?”

Mr. Winsbert Benjamin stated that “I’m delighted the Prime Minister visited the village because the last time he came he was campaigning, he’s back now as Prime Minister, and we were able to raise our concerns, and I am confident that he will help us. Our main concerns were about a school for our children, electricity, and forestry, and I think that his response was positive”.
