Guyana Police seizes and destroys Cannabis worth $2.5 million

The Police officials of Guyana destroyed Ganja worth more than $2.5 billion. This discovery is a part of the biggest operation held by the authorities on Friday.

Notably, the Police and Coast Guard ranks conducted one of the biggest Narcotic Eradication Exercise at De Veldt, Berbice River. During the exercise, the officers discovered a suspected ‘stash house’ at De Veldt, Berbice River.

Upon discovering that, the authorities immediately held a search and found several illegal things. The things found in the area included 1,300 pounds of dried suspected cannabis, 100 pounds of suspected cannabis seeds, 520 twelve-gauge cartridges, and one .22 long Rifle with 19 matching rounds of ammunition.

Following that, the authorities ventured further into the area and discovered three abandoned farms measuring around three acres. As per the details shared by the authorities, one of the farms had forty trays of suspected cannabis seedling plants, measuring two inches in height.

Subsequently, the officers continued with their search of the other two farms, which were measuring around 10 acres and about one hundred feet apart. The authorities discovered 39000 suspected cannabis in the first farm and 50,000 in the second farm, all measuring about six to twelve inches in height.

After the discovery of all these items, the authorities photographed the suspected stash house, the items found and the cannabis farms and later destroyed them by fire. As per the details, the total estimated street value of the Cannabis destroyed is more than $2.5 billion.

Moreover, the twelve-gauge cartridges and the Rifle with matching rounds were taken to the Central Police Station, where they were photographed, marked, sealed, and lodged. The authorities have not arrested anyone during the operation but have promised to continue such operations with a vision to enhance the safety and security of the country and make Guyana a drug-free nation.

Also, following this operation, several residents of the country took to their social media accounts and expressed their views on the news. One person with a Facebook account, Donivald Augustine, commented, “The government has to start giving out or sharing the oil money, and then the drug dealers will stop. They are trying all their best for a living instead of robbing business people. I’m sure police collect a couple of pounds for himself, but the news says they destroy it.”

Another person with Facebook handle Woolford Henry commented the following “Just now you see them going to legalize it and the thing is only the rich will get the license to grow it and the small hustler will get knock out.”
