Guyana: A team from the Ministry of Labour is conducting a two-day Sensitization Outreach on Child Labour in the Agricultural Sector in Abary River.

Georgetown, Guyana: A team from the Ministry of Labour is conducting a two-day Sensitization Outreach on Child Labour in the Agricultural Sector in Abary River, Region 5 (Mahaica Berbice), according to the update by the Ministry.
According to the update by the ministry, the outreach aimed to educate employees at the Ministry’s Region 5 Regional Democratic Council (RDC) offices in Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice (WCB), and RDC sub-office in Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Furthermore, it stated that it also sought to educate workers about their rights as employees and reach out to employers, with a focus on Child Labour.
The Labour Ministry of Guyana further informed that the officers met with employees and employers from the agricultural sector, including rice farming, cattle rearing, fishing, and cash crop farming, and engaged in informal discussions about Labour Laws, Occupational Safety and Health guidelines, and Cooperative Societies.
In addition to this, throughout the exercise, job seekers and employers were able to obtain information on access to the National Job Bank website and services of the Central Recruitment and Manpower Agency (CRMA), and brochures and flyers were distributed by various departments.
According to the update, the team was led by Labour Officers Hardat Malchan and Vedmattie Budhram and accompanied by Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Officer Babita Singh, Central Recruitment and Manpower Agency (CRMA) Officer Deopaul Pitamber and Regional Co-op Officer Vikash Boodhoo.
