Georgetown, Guyana: The Ministry of Labour of Guyana has recently informed about the participation of Labour Minister Joseph Hamilton in the Intersectoral Hemispheric meeting. The major focus of the meeting will be on ‘Towards a stronger coordination between education and labour in the Americas’.
The update informed that Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour, is currently attending a two-day Intersectoral Hemispheric meeting on “Towards a stronger coordination between education and labour in the Americas” from May 4-5, 2023, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Accordingly, the meeting, which is hosted through a partnership between the Government of Argentina and the Organization of American States (OAS), saw 35 countries participating.
It provides a platform for representatives from the Ministries of Labour and Education, employers’ and workers’ organisations, as well as key international organisations, to exchange experiences and identify policy and programmatic recommendations to strengthen the coordination between education and labour ministries.
Following the meeting’s conclusion, the identified lessons and policy recommendations will assist in the development of a national qualification framework for implementation.
Minister Hamilton told the gathering that the “coordination between labour and education is paramount and necessary for good labour market outcomes and economic and social progress of our countries and people.”
The Ministry informed that a team from the Ministry of Labour is currently participating in a Job Fair held by Covent Garden Secondary School, East Bank Demerara.
The event was attended by students from Covenant Garden, Dora Secondary, and Camellia Academy, among others.
The team used this occasion to educate the students on Labour Laws, Cooperative and Friendly Societies, employment prospects and the National Job Bank website, training opportunities, and Occupational Safety and Health standards.
Labour, Occupational Safety and Health, Central Recruitment & Manpower Agency (CRMA), Cooperative Societies, and the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) representatives. The Ministry was also recognised for its involvement in the fair.
