The vessel, ‘Miss Meena,’ travelled from Georgetown to the islands with several tons of relief items, including food, water and emergency supplies.

Prime Minister of the volcano-affected islands, Ralph Gonsalves, thanked the Government and people of Guyana for the assistance, which he called significantly.

“The Government & people of St Vincent and the Grenadines are very grateful to the Government and the people of [the] the Republic of Guyana for their generosity during our time of challenge. The support and solidarity shown by our brothers and sisters in the region have been truly remarkable. To my brother President Ali, thank you.”

Guyana’s Through the support of Banks DIH, Guyana’s government sent a second shipment via Tropical Shipping, consisting of a 20ft container with 800 cases of Tropical Mist water, 1152 cases of Rainforest Water and 400 cases of Aqua Mist water on Thursday.

A third shipment is a schedule to leave Guyana next week. Director-General of the Civil Defence Commission, Lieutenant- Colonel Kester Craig, said that the packing of the vessel would commence on Monday.

Over 50 local businesses, under the umbrella of the Private Sector Commission (PSC), the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) and the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), have supported the relief efforts.

The Soufrière Volcano first erupted on Friday, April 9, with several other eruptions since. Residents are significantly affected, and many have been displaced.

A resident Mark Wilkison commented, “The Caribbean is looking to Guyana to lead the way in the development; with this, we must support our Caribbean brothers and sisters through their trying times. Blessing on Guyana, continue to support St. Vincent and the Grenadines.”

Besides these supplies, Guyana is providing every aid that can improve the conditions of St Vincent people.

The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) and Banks DIH have loaded a 20ft container with 800 cases of Tropical Mist water, 1152 cases of Rainforest Water, and 400 cases of Aqua Mist water shipped to St Vincent and the Grenadines.
