Guyana: A 45-year-old Cyril Joseph Dyer alias ‘Bling’ was arrested by Superintendent Roberts at Brickdam Police Station on 26th January 2024 for the offence of possessing firearm and ammunition. It is to be noted that the charges were read against him on Tuesday.

The charges were laid against him contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearm Offences Act, Chapter 16:05.
Moreover, he pleaded not guilty to both charges and he was granted bail. He was given bail under the fulfilment of certain conditions, which included that he had to pay a sum of one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000).
The matter has been adjourned till now and the next hearing will be held on 21st February 2024.
Various residents of the community also took to their social media accounts to share their views on the matter. One person with a Facebook account, Andrew Liverpool, commented, “The police is a part of the obtaining this license, this stupidness must be stopped in Guyana. Do an investigation to see how he obtained the license; he knows that the police gave you this license, so I know he is only making himself a fool.”
Another person with a Facebook handle, Glynis Gibson, commented the following: “Well, he should find a lawyer and spill all the beans. The next court day, perhaps that is the reason why he pleaded not guilty. But it sounded really stupid. “He” took the gun to obtain a new licence. Lol.”
