Grenada seeking supply of cement from other region than Caribbean region

Reduction in the business activities in Trinidad and Tobago to stop the increasing effect of COVID-19 and also controlling the spread of COVID-19 from its neighbouring countries. Due to which being the leading supplier of Cement to many countries, it can not supply the cement to them. So this is the reason Grenada has been
looking for permission from CARICOM to import cement in Grenada from outside of the Caribbean region. As they have not been getting the supply from Trinidad and Tobago.

Trinidad and Tobago have been under a state of lockdown for the last 12 months, and the constructions, whether in the public or private sector, has been categorized in post -COVID-19 to improve the economy of the country. St George said

The recovery plans of Trinidad and Tobago have been delayed by the government of the country in Parliament.

So now PM Dr Keith Mitchell said that his government is looking for dealing with the shortage of cement by importing the cement from other regional markets.

PM Mitchell said that they still believe that construction has been key to the recovery and any problem that they have there might be corrected, that has been the reason why they tried and most likely received help from the regional institution to proceed and buy cement extra-regional.

PM Mitchell said that he had not mentioned the problem of materials for construction. They need to have more than one quarry and more than one asphalt plant. They would give them further opportunity for supply in those areas.

The Prime Minister has not disclosed the names of the companies or organizations that have been seeking to import the cement but indicated that several applications were submitted. In 2004, Grenada, in consequence of hurricane Ivan also had to seek permission to import cement from outside of the region.
