Grenada: Minister meets with local disaster committee in Petite Martinique

St George, Grenada: The Government of Grenada has recently shared an update regarding the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) on the island of Petite Martinique. As per GIS Grenada, the commitment to NaDMA has been reassured by Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government – Tevin Andrews, Permanent Secretary within the Ministry for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Javan Williams.

The social media update regarding the same was shared by the Government of Grenada. The update mentioned that Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Tevin Andrews, and Permanent Secretary within the Ministry for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Javan Williams, have reassured of their commitment to the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) on the island of Petite Martinique.

According to the update, Minister Andrews, who visited the Emergency Operations Centre on the 586 acres island of Petite Martinique and met with the newly elected district executive, reiterated the importance of collaboration among executive members, noting that “it would be of great benefit to all”.

Furthermore, it informed that the Minister also pledged the Government’s commitment to assisting whenever called upon to ensure that lives, as well as livelihoods, are protected in the best interest of everyone. He expressed sincere thanks to all volunteers and encouraged others to come on board.

“Permanent Secretary Williams stressed the importance of NaDMA being always equipped and ready to handle any eventualities, especially hurricanes,” the update by the Government mentioned.

Further, while emphasising the upcoming hurricane season and the importance of safety and security during that time, Minister Williams asked the general public to be cautious and follow all safety and security during those crucial months.

“The 2023 hurricane season begins in June. Williams made a plea to citizens in the State of Grenada to be prepared as always and to follow the necessary precautionary measures as the year unfolds,” the update by the Government noted.
