Govt of Jamaica extends UK travel ban

Kingston, Jamaica: Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced a further extension of the ban on flights coming into the country from the United Kingdom.

The Prime Minister was speaking ON January 26 in Parliament. The ban is now being extended until Sunday, February 28, 2021.

Prime Minister Holness indicated that most of the existing measures under the Disaster Risk Management (Enforcement Measures) Order,2021, which are due to expire on January 31, 2021, will be extended until February 28, 2021, with a few amendments being considered in relation to funeral services, non-spectator sporting events and standing passengers on public bus transportation.

All non-Jamaicans who have been in the UK within the last 14 days preceding to intended arrival date in Jamaica who may attempt to enter the island through another country will not be allowed to enter Jamaica.

Jamaicans who have been in the UK within the 14 days preceding to intended arrival date, who attempt to enter the island through another country will be tested and placed in State quarantine for a minimum of 48 hours until the results are delivered.

If it comes negative, then they will be transformed to home quarantine to complete the 14 days mandatory quarantine period. If optimistic, they will be transferred to isolation at a location approved by the Ministry of Health & Wellness.

Minister of Health& Wellness Dr. Christopher Tufton remarked that “the Ministry of Health & Wellness will recapitulate to work with the various airlines to encourage the repatriation of UK residents who are in the land and wish to return to the UK. Cargo Flights from the UK will continue to be released from the travel ban.”

Meanwhile, Jamaicans are strongly recommended not to travel to the UK at this time. Those who travel abroad, including to the UK, will be subject to the finished quarantine or isolation process on their coming to Jamaica.
