Government of St Kitts and Nevis extends the State of Emergency to 31st December 2021

The State of Emergency that has been declared in St. Kitts and Nevis on June 15 and was supposed to help effectively in mitigating the effect of the COVID-19 Pandemic in the Federation. The State of Emergency had extended to December 31 2021. The decision has been taken after passing a Resolution in the Parliament.
The announcement was made by the PM of St . Kitts and Nevis, Dr Timothy Harris. This Resolution has been passed during the emergency sitting of the National Assembly. PM Timothy Harris presented the Resolution made under section 19(3) of Saint Christopher and Nevis 1983 constitution order of the National Assembly.
PM Timothy Harris said that the COVID-19 virus had been continuously posing a significant threat of a natural calamity on the scale of a public health emergency for St Kitts and Nevis, and it has been necessary to extend the State of Emergency till the date of 31st December 2021. It has been essential for developing the State of Emergency up to December 31 2021. The extension of the state of Emergency would be coming to effect from July 07 2021, to fight with COVID-19 virus that has been posing a threat to the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis.
PM Timothy Harris stated that the extension of the State of Emergency would play a vital role to check the increasing effect of the second wave of COVID-19 and its growing impact.
PM Timothy Harris said that it has been clear that the State of Emergency has been required to contain the community spread of COVID-19 in St. Kitts and Nevis and to prevent the damage of their health system and, by this extension, they could save lives.
PM Timothy Harris highlighted that the State of Emergency in Saint Lucia started from March 23 to October 16, 2021, while the Grenada’s State of Emergency was imposed from March 30 to July 14, 2021, Barbados imposed a State of Emergency on March 01, which will expire on June 30, 2021. Grenada, Parliament increased the State of Emergency to November 01, 2021.
