Government of Dominica to start vaccination roll-out for children

On Sunday, during Anou Pale, Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit said that Dominica had an adequate amount of COVID-19 vaccines. The Government would use these vaccines to vaccinate a large number of citizens on the island.

PM Skerrit acknowledged the efforts of the US government for providing 46,500 doses of Pfizer vaccine to Dominica. The Government of Dominica would be administrating these vaccines for inoculation of children ranging from the age group of 12 to 17.

During the Anou Pale, the parents have been asked to get vaccinated along with their children. PM said that Government is not planning to make the vaccination mandatory till now. PM Skerrit hoped for the quick recovery of the 600 active covid-19 cases on the island.

PM Skerrit added, “We’re in a fight against an unseen enemy that is coming to steal, kill and destroy god’s people. The Government will lead it, but it cannot do it alone. This will need all leaders to play their part in civil society, and the business community must also show leadership.”

The medical teams of Dominica have been actively testing the people for COVID-19 and also tracing the active cases. PM Skerrit said as the 1 antigen test cost US$20 and 1 PCR test cost US $100, but the tests are being done free of cost.

PM Skerrit commended all the frontline workers who have been doing hard work and working tirelessly to help the nation to battle against the COVID-19 virus.

Dominican Government is procuring land for constructing a multi-story administrative infrastructure in Portsmouth. PM Skerrit said that the building would provide all the needs and public services in one place.

Prime Minister said that understanding the present situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, it would not be possible for Government to resume face-to-face classes, as the Government cannot accept risks with the health of Dominicans
