Fourth wave of COVID emerges in St Kitts and Nevis

Basseterre: JNF General Hospital Dr Cameron Wilkinson, alerting the general public informed the starting of the fourth wave in St Kitts and Nevis. He added the numbers of COVID infections are rising and should not be a surprise for the people, as they were already warned.  

Dr Wilkinson again issued a warning, informing the people that numbers in all the categories will continue to rise over the next few weeks, including the death toll. 

Further encouraging the citizens to get vaccinated, Dr Wilkinson stated that the clinics are open for vaccination, which is the best protection against the contagious COVID19 mutant.  

“Go out and give yourself the best protection available, which is the vaccine. You are not only doing this for yourself but also to protect those around you,” following the statement, he stated. 

“We should all benefit from good public health and equally so should all be willing to help maintain it. We are not helpless. Do not hesitate. Go out and get vaccinated“.

One more death has been recorded in St Kitts and Nevis on Tuesday, Dr Wilkinson noted, adding that the twin-island Federation will see a hike in the death toll in upcoming weeks. 

“However, by being vaccinated, you are more likely to have an asymptomatic or mild disease if you get infected”. 

Besides this, he urged the citizens to abide by the guidelines and measures set by the government. He noted, “Continue to wear a mask and sanitize especially if in crowds but more importantly go out and get”. 

As per the data, around 81.3% of its adult population received their first jabs of the vaccine, while 75.5% of adults are fully immunized. 

“Yes, if you are vaccinated, you may find yourself in the category that says active cases, but your stay there should be a short one,” Dr Wilkinson highlights. 

The Caribbean region also witnessed the arrival of the new Omicron variant.
