Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, in the recent episode of Annou Pale on Sunday, underscored the developments and achievements of the Dominican government in the previous year. He noted that the safety of the Dominicans had remained the priority of his administration.
“Over the past 2 years, we have seen and been pragmatic and responsible in our approach and demonstrated consistent care and concern for our people through the decisive actions”, PM Skerrit stated.
Dominican administration made sure that every individual had access to the COVID-19 testing and life-saving vaccinations, noting that it was not an easy task for them.
Dominicans have access to free COVID-19 tests, which several significant economies in the world even struggle to provide.
“So I am proud that in Dominica, we took necessary decisions to protect the lives of the citizens”, the prime minister added.
Among the several achievements of the Dominican administration was the signing of the development of the international airport, which will open gates for travellers around the globe via direct flight service, adding up to the island’s economy. This will eventually boost the tourism sector of Dominica. He added that the government would sign a construction agreement to begin the airport by the end of January.
PM Skerrit outlined, the government already cleared land for the construction of roads, a lab for in-house, soil and material testing is complete, and thirty-one new homes at Wesley are near ready for move-in.
Furthermore, he highlighted the significance of direct flights from Miami by American Airlines, noting that this will surely boost air access to the island.
“I can tell you; our tourism stakeholders are already benefitting from this. We have seen a rise in bookings at our local hotel properties, and the announcement that American Airlines will operate daily flights into Dominica from April is a sure sign of confidence in our destination,” he added.
