Director Lavado Stubbs directs two episodes of American Show “Johnson”; highlights Bahamian Paradise

Bahamian Director Lavado Stubbs directed two episodes of the American comedy-drama television series ‘Johnson’. He directed episodes 6 and 7 of this incredible TV Series that were part of Season 4 and were filmed in Nassau/Paradise Island.

The locations where these episodes of the series were shot include Downtown Nassau, Junkanoo Beach, and Clifton Heritage Park. The episodes of the series are all set to air on Bounce TV with the episodes to be released on this Saturday and the next Saturday at 8 pm.

Notably, this series showcases a dynamic portrayal of life in The Bahamas. While shedding light on the direction of the episodes, Stubbs stated that it has been a long journey for him. He added that as he always says that it is just a matter of being ready for the opportunity.

“And I think that my career up to this point led me, as a director to be ready for it,” noted Lavado Stubbs.

Lavado Stubbs also added that in the episodes, the main character of the show had to make a trip to the Bahamas and for the same the creator and producers wanted the authenticity of Bahamian culture at the forefront, so they gave him a control to make this vision a reality.

He added that he was a Bahamian filmmaker first before being a filmmaker, and it was important for him to highlight not only the sun and sea but also the incredible talent that they have.

While emphasising on his journey of directing those two episodes, Lavado Stubbs stated that they contracted local talent for various areas, including some familiar faces on screen.

Moreover, the creator of the show, Deji LaRay shared about selecting Lavado Stubbs and stated that it was his team’s idea to have him in the team and lend his expertise to the film early in the planning process. While shedding light on the selection of the locations, he stated that those were part of the guidance of Stubbs as he ensured that the producers made the right decisions at every step of the creative process.

LaRay also added that it was important for them to show the series as authentic as possible. He remarked that they wanted it to be authentic in terms of the writing, making sure that they added those keywords which are familiar to the Bahamian people and making sure that the locations were places that were instantly recognizable.

The Senator, Randy Rolle, of the Ministry of Tourism of Bahamas, also stated that this show marks the beginning of the Bahama’s foray into the filmmaking industry. He added that they are taking an aggressive approach in the film space altogether, and they can’t side idle and wait for these things to come to them. He noted that they need to go out there and get it, and this series is the result of going out there and showing their research and getting shows to come to the Bahamas.
