Director General of IICA warns for negative consequences of situation in Eastern Europe
The Director General of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture – Manuel Otero, has issued a warning about the negative consequences of the situation prevailing in the Eastern Europe.

World: The Director General of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture – Manuel Otero, has issued a warning about the negative consequences of the situation prevailing in the Eastern Europe.
He stated that the situation in the Eastern Europe might have “potential negative consequences for global food security and trade in agricultural goods.”
According to the IICA, “The Director General of the IICA, Manuel Otero, expressed his concern regarding the situation in Eastern Europe and warned of its potential negative consequences for global food security and trade in agricultural goods.”
He further emphasised on the impact on the world peace and stated that these situations caused the disruption in the supply of food which affects the price and production of food.
He further added that the world, especially the Latin America and Caribbean islands, is still recovering from the ill effects of COVID-19 pandemic. Otero further mentioned that, due to the global pandemic, millions of families have been dragged into poverty and the future of children and youth, especially those who have been unable to attend school, has been jeopardized.
In the midst of this situation, IICA’s Director General highlighted the commitment of the institute and assured to ensure the development in the agricultural field and to provide technical assistance to the food importers, across the globe.
“In light of this new scenario, the Director General underscored IICA’s commitment to continue to ensure agricultural development and the well-being of rural communities in the Americas, as well as to increase the technical cooperation and assistance it provides to the countries – many of which are food importers – in an effort to address and mitigate the consequences of the conflict in the region,” the statement issued by IICA mentioned.
